How High-Speed Pursuits Can Increase Crash Severity in Los Angeles
High-speed pursuits often raise the risk of serious crashes. When vehicles travel at elevated speeds, stopping distances increase, and reaction time decreases.
Intersections are especially dangerous during pursuits. Running a red light can lead to side-impact crashes, which may cause a vehicle to spin or roll over.
Urban neighborhoods in Los Angeles County include parked cars, narrow streets, and steady traffic. When a fleeing driver loses control, surrounding vehicles and property can be damaged quickly.
Rollover crashes can occur when a vehicle strikes another object at an angle. The force of impact may shift the vehicle’s center of gravity, causing it to flip and land on its side or roof.
