LOS ANGELES, Los Angeles County, Calif., Oct. 20, 2026 — A hit and run crash involving several vehicles was reported Monday evening, October 19, on the connector from eastbound State Route 118 to eastbound Interstate 210 in Los Angeles. The California Highway Patrol said injuries were reported in the collision.
According to the agency's traffic log, the crash began as a sedan and two trucks came together on the transition road, blocking lanes. A driver in a gold Chevrolet reportedly backed into other vehicles involved in the wreck and then fled the scene, heading east on the 210 toward Lincoln Avenue. The report also noted three additional vehicles became involved as traffic backed up behind the original collision.
Officers tracked the fleeing vehicle for several minutes as it moved through lanes near Lowell Avenue and Ocean View Boulevard, with a reporting party following at a distance with hazard lights on. The suspect vehicle eventually yielded near Lincoln Avenue, and a sheriff's air unit was called in to assist before Pasadena police were notified.
Crews cleared the roadway and towed a vehicle from the shoulder near Osborne Street, and all lanes had reopened by evening. The California Highway Patrol's Freeway Service Patrol closed out its assistance on the incident Monday night.
The investigation remains active. We wish the injured a speedy recovery.

Frequently Asked Questions
What typically causes multi-vehicle pile-ups like this one?
Chain-reaction crashes often start with a single collision or sudden stop that other drivers don't have time to react to, especially where lanes merge or traffic is heavy, such as a freeway connector.
Why do these chain-reaction crashes happen so quickly?
Once a vehicle stops or is struck in a travel lane, following drivers may have only seconds to brake or swerve. Tight following distances and blocked sightlines make it hard to avoid getting pulled into the wreck.
How can drivers avoid getting caught in a pile-up?
Keeping extra space behind the vehicle ahead, slowing down at known merge or connector points, and watching for brake lights well before reaching a slowdown can help drivers react sooner.
What to Do After a Multi-Vehicle Crash in Los Angeles, CA
If you're involved in a chain-reaction crash, check yourself and any passengers for injuries before doing anything else, and call 911 right away. Move to a safe spot off the traffic lanes if possible, since vehicles stopped on a freeway shoulder remain at risk from passing traffic. Exchange information with other drivers involved, but avoid trying to assign blame at the scene, especially in incidents involving a vehicle that left before officers arrived.
Even if you feel fine immediately afterward, it's worth getting checked by a medical provider, since some injuries from sudden stops or impacts don't show symptoms right away. Keep any paperwork from police or responding agencies, and follow up with your insurance company promptly to start documenting the incident while details are fresh.
