How Wrong-Way Driving Increases the Risk of Serious Crashes
Wrong-way driving can create sudden and dangerous situations, especially during overnight hours. Drivers traveling against traffic may surprise others who do not expect a vehicle coming from that direction.
Reduced visibility and lower traffic volumes at night can also contribute to confusion on the roadway. When a vehicle enters lanes moving the opposite way, pedestrians and other drivers may have little time to react.
Crashes involving wrong-way driving often result in severe outcomes due to the unexpected angle of impact. Reviewing roadway markings, signage, and driver actions can help clarify how these incidents occur.
