Loveland, CO (April 18, 2026) – A 23-year-old man died after a crash involving a motorcycle and an SUV on Thursday morning in Loveland.
The collision occurred just before 8:00 a.m. on April 17 along Colorado 402 near County Road 7. According to reports, the motorcyclist was traveling eastbound on a Suzuki GSX when a westbound GMC Acadia attempted to turn left onto County Road 7.
As the SUV made the turn, it collided with the motorcycle, ejecting the rider. Emergency units arrived at the scene and determined the motorcyclist had died from his injuries. The driver of the GMC, a 47-year-old woman, was taken to a hospital.
Preliminary findings indicate that speed may have contributed to the crash. Authorities also reported that drugs and alcohol are not believed to be factors. The roadway was closed for several hours following the collision.
Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash, and more details will be released as soon as they become available.
We extend our sincere condolences to the family of the deceased.
What Factors Can Contribute to Motorcycle Crashes During Left Turns?
Crashes involving motorcycles and turning vehicles often happen when a driver misjudges distance or speed. Motorcycles can approach quickly, making it harder for others to estimate when it is safe to turn.
Left-turn situations are especially risky because they require crossing oncoming traffic. If timing is off, a vehicle may enter a motorcycle’s path with little time to react.
Speed and visibility can both affect these incidents. Higher speeds reduce reaction time, while the smaller size of motorcycles can make them less noticeable in traffic. Road design and intersection layout may also influence how these crashes occur.
