Why Big Rig Crashes Can Lead to Highway Closures
Crashes involving large commercial trucks often result in extended road closures. Big rigs can block multiple lanes, especially if they overturn or spill cargo.
When materials such as cement are released onto the roadway, cleanup may take several hours. Fire risks can also add to the complexity of the response.
Highway shutdowns allow crews to remove damaged vehicles, clear debris, and assess roadway safety. In rural areas, detours may be limited, which can affect traffic flow for a longer period compared to crashes in urban settings.
