What Factors Are Reviewed in Fatal Pedestrian Crashes?
Fatal pedestrian crashes are often examined closely to determine how and where the person was struck. Investigators typically review lighting conditions, roadway visibility, and the location of crosswalks or intersections at the time of the incident.
Vehicle speed and driver reaction time are also commonly assessed, along with whether the pedestrian was in or near a travel lane. Evidence such as tire marks, impact points, and nearby surveillance footage may help reconstruct the event. In early morning crashes, darkness and reduced visibility are often considered as part of the overall analysis. These combined details help authorities better understand how the collision occurred.
