Laclede County, MO (July 9, 2026) – A 79-year-old man died on Tuesday evening after being rescued from a house fire on North Porter Ave in Laclede County.
According to the Conway Volunteer Fire Department, firefighters were dispatched to the burning home at approximately 3:53 p.m. Crews arrived within six minutes and entered the residence, where they found Robert Welle trapped inside. He was removed from the home and flown by medical helicopter to the Mercy Hospital Springfield Burn Center.
Welle was pronounced dead at 7:47 p.m. The fire department received assistance from several neighboring agencies during the emergency.
The Missouri State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause of the fire. Investigators said there is no indication that the fire was suspicious at this time.
