Railroad Safety Tips for Pedestrians Near Train Tracks

Railroad tracks are designed for trains and can be dangerous places for people walking nearby. Trains move quickly, require long distances to stop, and may approach quietly depending on conditions.

People should avoid walking along tracks unless they are in a permitted crossing area. Staying alert, keeping distance from rail lines, and avoiding distractions can help prevent dangerous situations. Designated crossings are built with safety features that allow pedestrians and vehicles to pass more safely. Awareness of train schedules and surroundings can also reduce risks near active railways.
