Amarillo, TX (August 15, 2026) – A 76-year-old man was killed, and two other drivers were reportedly injured after a tractor-trailer crossed the median of Interstate 40 and struck oncoming traffic. The crash happened at approximately 4 p.m. on Thursday, August 13.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, Jimmy Broyles of Logan, New Mexico, was driving a 1999 Ford F-250 when the tractor-trailer entered the eastbound lanes. The pickup was struck before being pushed into a 2020 Chevrolet Malibu. The tractor-trailer, a 2022 Mack, had been traveling west when it crossed the median and passed through a cable barrier. It continued across a frontage road before stopping in an open field, while the pickup rolled over into the median.
Broyles died at the scene. The tractor-trailer driver, 48-year-old Jimmy Diaz of Amarillo, was taken to Northwest Texas Hospital with minor injuries, while 24-year-old Evelyn Karina Rangel-Gonzalez of Harlingen was taken to BSA Hospital with minor injuries. DPS is looking into the circumstances surrounding the crash.
