Marion, OH (July 29, 2026) – A 27-year-old man lost their life in a hit-and-run crash Tuesday morning, July 28, on US 23 north of Waldo in Marion County. The collision occurred around 7:22 a.m. when investigators believe a Mercury Grand Marquis left the roadway and struck a disabled Buick LeSabre, where Dempsy DeAngelo of Marion was standing nearby.
DeAngelo was pronounced dead at the scene. According to preliminary information, the driver of the Mercury exited the vehicle after the crash and fled on foot with a child believed to be about 6 years old. An uninjured 44-year-old passenger remained at the scene. Authorities said the suspect and child were not believed to have been hurt, and the child’s condition was not reported to be in danger. The search for the suspect remains ongoing.
