Why Red-Light Crashes Can Result in Serious Injuries
Intersections rely on traffic signals to organize the movement of vehicles traveling in different directions. When a driver enters an intersection on red, other motorists may have little time to avoid a crash.
Reviews of these crashes often consider traffic signals, vehicle speeds, roadway markings, and driver actions before the collision. Investigators may also examine available video footage and witness statements to better understand how the vehicles approached the intersection. These details can help explain the factors involved in serious intersection crashes.
