Raleigh, NC (July 17, 2026) – A man lost his life in a hit-and-run crash early Thursday, July 16, on Interstate 40 West in Raleigh.
According to the Raleigh Police Department, officers responded just before 2:30 a.m. after receiving a report of a body on I-40 West between U.S. 1 and Cary Towne Boulevard. When officers arrived, they found a man who was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators determined the man had been struck by a vehicle that left the scene without stopping. Two westbound lanes of Interstate 40 were temporarily closed while police processed the scene, causing minor delays during the morning commute. All lanes have since reopened.
The fatal wreck remains under investigation, and no arrests have been announced. Anyone with information about the incident is encouraged to contact the Raleigh Police Department or submit anonymous tips through Crime Stoppers.
