Fort Worth, TX (July 17, 2026) – A 37-year-old man died, a woman was critically injured, and two firefighters were hurt while battling a house fire early on Thursday, July 16, on Avenue J in Fort Worth.
Firefighters responded around 2:45 a.m. to a single-story home in the 3500 block of Avenue J, where they encountered heavy flames coming from the structure. According to the Fort Worth Fire Department, crews faced severe challenges because the home contained large amounts of stored belongings that blocked interior pathways and created intense heat conditions.
Despite the difficult conditions, firefighters located two people trapped inside the residence and brought them to safety. The man, identified as Jamie Martinez, was given lifesaving treatment at the scene but was pronounced dead. The woman was airlifted to a hospital in critical condition for emergency care.
Two firefighters suffered heat-related injuries during the rescue operation and were taken to a nearby hospital. Officials said both are expected to recover. Arson investigators are working to determine the cause of the fatal fire. The investigation remains ongoing.
