Fountain, FL (July 23, 2026) – A 67-year-old man died after a pickup truck and a semi-truck were involved in a traffic collision at the intersection of US-231 and Harrington Road in Fountain on Tuesday, July 21.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the man was driving a Nissan Frontier on Harrington Road shortly before 10 a.m. when he attempted to cross the lanes of US-231. Investigators said the pickup was struck on the driver’s side by a southbound semi-truck.

The Altha man became trapped inside the pickup following the crash. Emergency units attempted to free him and provide first aid, but he was pronounced dead after medical personnel arrived. A 39-year-old woman and a 7-year-old girl, both from Altha and riding in the Nissan, were taken to local hospitals with serious injuries.

The 55-year-old driver of the semi-truck received minor injuries. Delays affected traffic in the area while the roadway was managed, and additional details about the collision had not been released beyond the preliminary findings.

The Traffic Homicide Unit continues to examine the circumstances surrounding the wreck. We offer our deepest condolences to the family and friends of the man who lost his life.

Why Failure to Yield at Highway Intersections Can Lead to Serious Collisions

Intersections where local roads meet busy highways can present significant challenges because vehicles often travel at higher speeds on the main roadway. Drivers entering or crossing those highways must judge traffic gaps carefully before proceeding. Even a small miscalculation can leave neither vehicle enough time to avoid contact.

After a serious intersection collision, investigators typically review roadway markings, traffic patterns, vehicle damage, witness statements, and any available electronic or video evidence. They may also examine visibility, weather, and the final resting positions of the vehicles. These findings help create a clearer picture of how the collision occurred and may explain the sequence of actions leading up to it.
