Why Visibility Can Become a Factor in Overnight Pedestrian Crashes
Pedestrian accidents that happen during overnight hours are often reviewed closely because visibility conditions can change significantly after dark. Reduced lighting, limited reaction time, and roadway design may all affect how drivers and pedestrians see one another.
Investigators may also examine whether the pedestrian was crossing within a marked area or walking near traffic lanes at the time of the crash. Vehicle speed, weather conditions, and traffic flow can also provide more context about how the collision occurred.
In some cases, roadway lighting and nearby signage are reviewed to determine whether the area gave drivers enough warning. Damage patterns on the vehicle and the final resting location can also help explain how the incident unfolded.
