Manheim Township, PA (April 17, 2026) – Six people were injured following a seven-vehicle crash earlier this week on Route 30 in Manheim Township.
The collision occurred at about 1:37 p.m. Tuesday, April 15, on Route 30 eastbound at Oregon Pike. Emergency units responded to the scene after reports of a large chain-reaction crash involving multiple vehicles.
Authorities said a 64-year-old man from Wrightsville was driving a box truck when he failed to notice stopped traffic ahead. The truck first struck a stopped vehicle, which was pushed into a guardrail. The box truck then struck another vehicle, triggering a chain reaction that ended with a school bus being hit from behind.
In total, seven vehicles were involved in the crash, and six had to be towed from the scene. The school bus, which was returning from a second-grade field trip, sustained only minor damage and did not require towing. No students were injured.
Six people from the other vehicles were taken to hospitals with minor injuries.
Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash, and more details will be released as soon as they become available. We are thinking of those injured as they receive medical care.
What Leads to Chain-Reaction Crashes Involving Multiple Vehicles?
Chain-reaction crashes often begin when one driver is unable to stop in time for slowed or stopped traffic ahead. Even a single impact can push vehicles forward into others, creating a cascading effect.
Traffic congestion and sudden slowdowns are common contributing factors. When drivers follow too closely, there is less time and distance to react safely.
Large vehicles, such as box trucks, can also increase impact force, making it more likely that multiple vehicles will be involved after the initial collision. Road conditions and visibility may further affect how quickly drivers can respond to stopped traffic.
