Why Motorcycle Crashes Often Result in Severe Injuries
Motorcyclists are particularly vulnerable in crashes because they lack the protective structure that cars and trucks provide. Even collisions at moderate speeds can result in serious or fatal injuries.
Rear-end or side impacts, sudden stops, and collisions with larger vehicles, such as trucks, can increase injury severity due to differences in size and weight. Helmets and protective gear help reduce the risk of head and bodily injuries, but they cannot always prevent fatalities.
Investigators examine factors such as speed, road conditions, visibility, and driver actions to determine how a motorcycle crash occurred and to identify potential safety improvements.
