Why Motorcycle Crashes With Semi-Trucks Are Often Severe
Motorcycle crashes involving semi-trucks can cause deadly injuries because riders have little protection. A motorcycle is much smaller than a tractor-trailer, and the force of impact can be severe.
Intersections can add more risk for riders and truck drivers. Turning movements, stop signs, and speed differences may leave little time to react. A truck also needs more space to turn, especially when entering a new roadway.
Early morning crashes may bring added concerns. Darkness can reduce visibility, and drivers may have less time to see a motorcycle approaching. Vehicle position, impact location, lighting, and roadway design can help explain how these serious collisions happen.
