How Do Semi-Truck Crashes Differ From Other Traffic Accidents?
Collisions involving semi-trucks can be more severe than typical crashes due to the size and weight of these vehicles. When a passenger car is involved, the force of impact often leads to significant damage, especially at intersections where vehicles cross paths.
These crashes frequently occur when one vehicle enters another’s path, leaving little time to react. Visibility, speed, and timing all affect how these incidents unfold. Intersections without clear separation between directions of travel may increase the chance of such events.
The design and stopping distance of large trucks also play a part. Semi-trucks require more space to slow down or stop, which can make sudden movements by smaller vehicles more dangerous in shared roadways.
