Maryville, TN (February 22, 2026) – A serious crash involving a motorcycle and two other vehicles shut down part of Wilkinson Pike late Saturday night. The collision happened on Saturday, February 21, in front of Ross Springs Dr.
Emergency units responded to the scene after the crash was reported. Officials said the wreck involved a motorcycle, a pickup truck, and an SUV. Two people were riding the motorcycle at the time of the collision, and both suffered serious injuries.
The injured riders were taken to the University of Tennessee Medical Center for treatment. As of 11:15 p.m., crews remained at the scene. Wilkinson Pike was closed in both directions from Holland Springs Dr to Forster St while responders worked in the area. The roadway later reopened, according to transportation officials.
Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash, and more details will be released as soon as they become available. Our thoughts are with those injured as they receive medical care.
Why Motorcycle Crashes Often Result in Serious Injuries
Motorcycle crashes frequently lead to severe injuries because riders have far less protection than people inside cars or trucks. Unlike enclosed vehicles, motorcycles do not provide a protective frame, airbags, or seat belts. Even when riders wear helmets and protective gear, the risk of serious harm remains high.
Collisions involving larger vehicles, such as pickup trucks and SUVs, can increase the force of impact. The size and weight difference between a motorcycle and other vehicles often leaves riders more exposed during a crash.
Road closures are common after serious motorcycle accidents. These closures allow emergency crews to provide care, clear debris, and safely remove damaged vehicles. On busy roads like Wilkinson Pike, shutting down traffic can help prevent secondary crashes and protect both responders and other drivers.
