Mayfield Township, MI (May 14, 2026) – A three-vehicle collision in Grand Traverse County left one man dead and two others injured, according to Michigan State Police.
Troopers from the MSP Traverse City Post responded to the crash around 5:07 p.m. on M-37 near M-113 in Mayfield Township. Preliminary findings indicate a Chevrolet Impala carrying two occupants was traveling eastbound on Miller Road and attempted to cross M-37 toward M-113 when it was struck by a northbound pickup truck.
Authorities said the impact pushed both vehicles into a third vehicle, a Jeep that was stopped on M-113 at the time of the crash. The Jeep, driven by a 33-year-old Traverse City woman, sustained minor damage, and no injuries were reported involving that vehicle.
The driver of the Impala, identified as a 44-year-old man from Cadillac, was transported to a hospital where he later died from his injuries. A 22-year-old passenger from Manton was also hospitalized with injuries described as non-life-threatening.
Officials said the pickup truck driver, a 59-year-old Traverse City man, was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries as well.
Multiple agencies assisted at the scene, including the Grand Traverse County Sheriff’s Office, Blair Township Emergency Services, and Paradise Township Emergency Services. The crash remains under investigation.

Multi-Vehicle Intersection Crashes
Crashes involving multiple vehicles at highway intersections can result in serious injuries due to crossing traffic and high travel speeds. Drivers attempting to cross or enter major roadways may face limited gaps in traffic and reduced reaction times.
Authorities encourage motorists to use caution when approaching intersections, carefully check for oncoming vehicles, and remain alert to changing traffic conditions. Even a single impact can trigger chain-reaction crashes involving additional vehicles nearby.
