Yucaipa, CA (July 27, 2026) — Three people were injured in a head-on collision at Bryant Street and State Route 38 in Yucaipa on Saturday, July 25, with one driver reported in critical condition.

California Highway Patrol dispatch records show the two-vehicle crash was reported shortly before 12:30 p.m. A white Chevrolet Silverado and a gray Ford Explorer were involved, and the Ford caught fire following the collision.

Emergency personnel transported three people to Loma Linda for treatment. The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department advised CHP that one of the drivers was in critical condition. The circumstances leading to the crash remain under review.

We hope those injured receive the care and support they need during their recovery.

Where the Crash Happened: Bryant St and SR-38

Bryant Street meets State Route 38 along a corridor where local traffic enters, exits, or crosses a state route. This type of intersection combines through traffic with turning and crossing movements, requiring drivers to monitor vehicles approaching from several directions.

The roadway was obstructed during the emergency response. When an intersection is blocked after a serious crash, responders must manage approaching traffic while providing medical care, addressing vehicle hazards, and arranging for damaged vehicles to be removed.

What We Know

  • The crash was reported shortly before 12:30 p.m.
  • CHP dispatch described the collision as head-on.
  • The vehicles were identified as a white Chevrolet Silverado and a gray Ford Explorer.
  • The Ford Explorer caught fire.
  • An older woman remained inside the Ford while responders worked to remove her.
  • Two tow trucks were requested.

Why Head-On Collisions Can Cause Serious Injuries

A head-on impact can concentrate the force of both vehicles at the front of each vehicle. At an intersection involving a state route, differences in approach speed, vehicle direction, and point of contact may affect the severity of the injuries.

The Silverado and Ford Explorer are also different vehicle types, which may influence how impact forces were distributed. Investigators will use physical evidence rather than the initial dispatch description alone to determine the precise collision sequence.

How This Crash Is Investigated

Investigators may document the point of impact, vehicle damage, debris, tire marks, and the final positions of the Silverado and Explorer. Those details can help establish the direction each vehicle was traveling and how they entered the same path.

Because one vehicle caught fire, investigators may also examine which damage occurred during the impact and which occurred afterward. Witness accounts, roadway evidence, and available vehicle data may provide further information as the investigation develops.

What to Do After a Serious Collision

People affected by a serious California collision should preserve medical records, photographs, towing documents, repair estimates, and insurance correspondence. Early dispatch information can change, while the completed collision report may provide a clearer account of the investigating officer’s findings.

For crashes investigated by the California Highway Patrol, reports are available through the CHP Crash Portal at crashes.chp.ca.gov or through a CHP 190 request submitted by mail or in person. The collision report form is CHP 555, while CHP 190 is the request form.

The online portal fee is $22. Mail and in-person requests cost $10 per 25 pages through CHP. A report becomes available after the investigating officer files it, and the portal indicates when it is ready.

Under Vehicle Code § 20012, eligible parties of interest include drivers, passengers, vehicle or property owners, parents or guardians, and legal or insurance representatives. California collision reports are not public records and remain restricted to eligible parties, with no fixed public-release window.
