Millsboro, DE (May 14, 2026) – A head-on crash with heavy entrapment was reported on May 14 near Hollyville Rd. and Harmony Cemetery Rd. in Sussex County. Emergency units arrived shortly after 9:00 a.m. and found two vehicles with several people trapped inside.
Three patients were later taken to Beebe Healthcare after crews completed extrication efforts on both vehicles. Early reports stated that one person was in trauma arrest and at least one other suffered critical injuries. Traffic was redirected for an extended period while crews worked along the roadway. The identities of those involved had not been released as of Friday afternoon.
Crews continue working to determine what led up to the roadway emergency. We hope those hurt in the rollover experience a full recovery.
Why Entrapment Cases Often Lead to Long Road Closures
Road incidents involving entrapment often require extended closures because rescue crews must safely remove people from heavily damaged vehicles. Specialized tools are commonly used to cut doors, roofs, or other sections of a car when occupants cannot exit on their own. This process can take considerable time, especially when more than one vehicle is involved.
Medical crews also need space to stabilize patients before they are moved to a healthcare facility. In serious cases, traffic may be redirected for hours to allow cleanup and protect workers nearby. Investigators may later examine tire marks, vehicle damage, and roadway conditions to better understand how the accident occurred. Information gathered during the early stages can help explain the sequence of actions leading up to a serious roadway emergency.
