Why Stopped Vehicles on Highways Can Create Safety Risks
A vehicle stopped in a travel lane can create a dangerous situation because approaching drivers may have limited time to react. Visibility, roadway conditions, and traffic speed can all affect how quickly a driver can avoid a stopped vehicle.
After this type of collision, investigators may review vehicle positions, roadway markings, and available information from drivers or witnesses. Staying alert, scanning ahead, and maintaining a safe following distance can help drivers recognize hazards sooner and reduce the risk of crashes.
