Modesto, CA (January 5, 2026) – Several people were hurt in a traffic collision that occurred late Thursday night at the intersection of 7th Street and H Street in downtown Modesto.
The crash took place around 9:37 p.m., involving multiple vehicles at the busy intersection near the Tuolumne River bridge. Witnesses reported hearing a loud crash followed by the arrival of emergency vehicles within minutes.
First responders from Modesto Fire and EMS quickly provided medical care to those injured. At least one person was transported to a local hospital for further evaluation, while others were treated at the scene. The extent of the injuries has not yet been confirmed by authorities.
The intersection was partially closed while police conducted an investigation and crews worked to remove the damaged vehicles. Traffic was temporarily rerouted through nearby streets, but normal flow resumed later in the evening.
Modesto Police are leading the investigation into the cause of the crash. They are reviewing surveillance footage and speaking with witnesses to determine whether speed, traffic signal violations, or other factors contributed to the incident.
