Knoxville, IL (August 31, 2026) – A Moline man and his Davenport, Iowa passenger died early on Sunday, August 30, after a wrong-way driver struck their motorcycle on westbound I-74 near mile marker 55, according to Illinois State Police. Troopers responded around 2:13 a.m. after a Chevrolet Malibu, driving east in the westbound lanes, collided head-on with the westbound motorcycle.
Both motorcycle riders were pronounced dead at the scene. The Malibu’s driver, 19-year-old Brian Boyer of Monmouth, was taken to a hospital with injuries before being released into custody. Westbound I-74 was closed until about 8 a.m.
The Knox County State’s Attorney’s Office approved charges against Boyer of aggravated DUI involving death and reckless homicide. He was ordered held pending the outcome of the case.
