Oswego, IL (August 31, 2026) – Two teens were injured on Saturday afternoon, August 30, after an eastbound car ran a red light at Route 34 and Heritage Drive, was struck by a left-turning SUV, and slid into the corner where they stood waiting to cross, according to the Village of Oswego. The crash happened around 12:51 p.m.
One teen was taken to Loyola Medical Center, while a second was taken to an area hospital in stable condition; the first teen’s condition was not immediately available. A third teen on the sidewalk was evaluated but declined care. The car’s 18-year-old driver was cited for disobeying a traffic signal and for failure to reduce speed, while the SUV’s 31-year-old driver was cited for driving with a suspended registration and for operating an uninsured vehicle.
The Illinois State Police is deploying a crash reconstruction team to assist Oswego police, and additional charges could follow. We hope both teens have a full recovery.
