What Happens When Vehicles Cross Into Opposing Lanes
Lane-crossing crashes often result in direct impacts between vehicles traveling in opposite directions. These collisions tend to be severe due to the combined speed of both vehicles at the time of impact. Even a brief loss of control can cause a vehicle to enter oncoming traffic.
Several factors can contribute to lane departures, including driver fatigue, distraction, or impairment. Road conditions such as curves or reduced visibility can also increase the risk. In many cases, the driver in the opposing lane has very little time to react or avoid the crash.
Staying focused, maintaining proper lane position, and adjusting speed for road conditions can help reduce the likelihood of these dangerous incidents.
