Frequently Asked Questions
What can drivers do to avoid intersection crashes like this one?
Slowing down and checking cross traffic before entering an intersection, even with the right of way, helps drivers react to vehicles that may not stop or yield in time.
What injuries are common in intersection collisions?
Side-impact crashes at intersections frequently cause injuries to the head, neck and chest, along with broken bones, even when seat belts are worn.
What typically causes crashes at intersections?
Failing to yield, misjudging another vehicle's speed, and distracted driving are common factors, though the specific cause of any crash is determined by investigators.
Does speed affect how serious a crash is?
Yes. Higher speeds give drivers less time to react and increase the force of impact, which can turn a minor collision into one with serious injuries.
