Why Lane-Blocking Motorcycle Crashes Can Create Additional Risks
Motorcycle crashes on busy freeways usually pose additional hazards because riders have far less protection than occupants of larger vehicles. When a motorcycle comes to rest in a travel lane, approaching drivers may have little time to slow down or change lanes, increasing the risk of secondary collisions. For this reason, traffic control measures are commonly used to create a safer space while injured people receive assistance and damaged vehicles are removed.
Investigators may also examine vehicle positions, roadway markings, witness statements, and any available camera footage to better understand how the crash occurred. As more information becomes available, those details can help provide a clearer picture of the sequence of events that led to the freeway collision.
