What Makes Motorcycle Crashes More Dangerous?
Motorcyclists have less physical protection than occupants of passenger vehicles, making them more vulnerable during a collision. Helmets and protective riding gear can reduce the severity of some injuries.
Drivers should check carefully for motorcycles before changing lanes, turning, or entering intersections. Maintaining a safe following distance also gives motorists more time to react when a motorcycle slows or stops.
Motorcyclists can improve visibility by using headlights, wearing high-visibility gear, and positioning themselves where other drivers can see them. Adjusting speed to traffic and roadway conditions can also reduce the likelihood of a serious crash.
