Monroe Township, MI (May 26, 2026) – A 34-year-old Monroe man was critically injured early Monday morning, May 25, around 12:32 a.m, after losing control of a Harley-Davidson motorcycle on East Dunbar Road near LaPlaisance Road in Monroe Township. Deputies said the motorcycle wreck happened while the rider was traveling through a curve.
Investigators said the motorcycle struck both curbs near a private driveway before the rider was thrown from the bike and hit a sign. The motorcycle and rider then skidded about 60 feet before coming to rest.
The man was taken to ProMedica Toledo Hospital in Toledo, where he remained in critical condition. Police said he was not wearing a helmet at the time of the roadway collision, and alcohol is not believed to have been a factor.
Investigation into the crash is still ongoing. We are keeping the injured rider in our thoughts as he receives medical care.
Why Curves Can Be Dangerous for Motorcycle Riders
Curved roads can present added risks for motorcycle riders, especially during overnight travel when visibility may be reduced. Entering a curve too quickly or making sudden steering adjustments can make it harder to maintain balance and control. Uneven pavement, gravel, or roadside curbs may also increase the chance of losing stability.
Protective gear, including helmets, can help reduce the severity of head trauma during motorcycle crashes. Riders who are thrown from a bike may continue sliding for a significant distance, which can lead to additional harm after the initial contact. Investigators reviewing these types of wrecks often examine roadway design, speed, lighting conditions, and physical evidence left behind to better understand how the loss of control occurred.
