Pekin, IL (July 2, 2026) – A motorcyclist died early on Wednesday morning, July 1, after a two-vehicle crash south of Pekin.
The Illinois State Police said the crash was reported around 5:08 a.m. at Illinois Route 9 and 5th Street. The collision involved an SUV and a motorcycle.
The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the site, according to Tazewell County Coroner Charlie Hanley. The rider’s name was not immediately released while officials worked to notify family members. An autopsy was scheduled for Wednesday. No injuries to the SUV driver were reported in the initial update.
Lanes along Illinois Route 9 were closed while officers investigated the cause of the crash. The Pekin crash remains under review as officials work to confirm the full sequence of events.
