Lincoln, NE (July 2, 2026) – Two people suffered serious injuries after two vehicles suspected of racing collided with another vehicle on Tuesday night at the intersection of 33rd St and O St in Lincoln.
Lincoln police officers responded to the crash shortly after 10 p.m. Investigators said a Ford F-150 and a Ford Escape were traveling westbound, side by side, on O St at high speeds when an Acura traveling eastbound attempted to turn left onto 33rd St. The three vehicles collided at the intersection.
According to police, the front of the Ford F-150 struck the rear passenger side of the Acura, causing the Acura to spin. Investigators reported the Ford F-150’s speedometer was stuck at 87 mph, while the Ford Escape’s speedometer was frozen at 96 mph following the crash.
The collision scattered debris that damaged two additional vehicles nearby and shattered a window at a nearby Jiffy Lube business.
A 16-year-old driver of the Ford Escape and a 23-year-old passenger in the Acura were transported to a hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. Police said the Acura passenger suffered a broken leg, broken ankle, broken arm, and broken hip. The teenage driver was later transferred to the intensive care unit with a broken leg, a broken rib, and a shattered knee.
The driver of the Acura was also taken to the hospital but later left against medical advice, according to police.
O St was closed between 27th St and 35th St while officers and Lincoln Fire and Rescue personnel investigated the crash and cleared the scene. The roadway has since reopened.
Police said the Ford F-150 and Ford Escape were suspected of racing before the collision. No citations have been issued, and the investigation remains ongoing.
How Police Investigate Suspected Street Racing Crashes
When investigators suspect street racing contributed to a collision, they examine physical evidence from the scene, including skid marks, vehicle damage, debris patterns, and electronic data from the vehicles. Investigators may also review surveillance footage, witness statements, and event data recorders to estimate vehicle speeds and reconstruct the crash.
Although excessive speed may be suspected, authorities generally complete a full investigation before determining whether criminal charges or traffic citations are appropriate. The findings help establish the sequence of events and whether unlawful racing or other traffic violations contributed to the collision.
