Why Motorcycle and SUV Crashes Can Be Fatal
Motorcycle and SUV crashes can be deadly because riders have little protection during impact. A rider may be thrown from the motorcycle or struck by the vehicle, roadway, or nearby objects. Injuries may affect the head, chest, spine, arms, legs, or internal organs.
A larger vehicle like an SUV can increase the force of contact because of its size and height. Investigators may review vehicle positions, travel direction, speed, visibility, road markings, and witness statements to understand how the collision happened. Road closures after a fatal motorcycle crash also allow crews to treat victims, document the scene, and safely remove damaged vehicles.
