Why Left-Turn Motorcycle Crashes Often Turn Deadly
Collisions involving a motorcycle and a turning vehicle are among the most dangerous roadway incidents. These crashes often happen when a driver turns across oncoming traffic and misjudges the speed or distance of an approaching rider.
Motorcycles are smaller and harder to see than passenger vehicles, especially on curved or rural roads like Haverhill Road. Limited sight distance, driveway entrances, and varying speeds can increase the risk of a driver making a turning error.
Even when helmets are worn, riders have little physical protection during a direct impact with a larger vehicle. Safety experts often encourage drivers to double-check for motorcycles before turning and for riders to reduce speed and stay highly visible in areas with frequent driveways and bends in the road.
