What Makes Highway Crashes Involving Large Vehicles More Disruptive
Crashes involving large vehicles like tractor-trailers can significantly impact traffic flow because their size and weight often make removal more complex, especially when structures like overpasses are involved.
Lane closures and extended cleanup times can lead to prolonged congestion on busy highways; they reduce roadway capacity, force traffic into fewer lanes, and prolong the time vehicles are exposed to bottlenecks. The longer the closure or cleanup, the more severe the delays, often leading to secondary crashes and economic costs.
