Rockingham County, VA (April 16, 2026) – Two Virginia State Police troopers were injured in a crash Tuesday afternoon along Interstate 81 in Rockingham County.
According to authorities, the incident occurred around 1:29 p.m. near mile marker 262 while a VSP sergeant and a K-9 trooper were seated in their vehicles observing traffic.
Police say a passing vehicle lost control and struck both patrol vehicles.
Both troopers sustained injuries and were transported to Sentara RMH Medical Center for treatment. Officials reported they have since been released and are in good condition.
The K-9 involved in the incident was also evaluated by a veterinarian and released.
Authorities indicated the driver who caused the crash may face a reckless driving charge.
