Dade City, FL (July 5, 2026) – Several people suffered serious injuries on Friday afternoon, July 3, around 3 p.m., following a three-vehicle crash at the intersection of Cortez Boulevard (SR 50) and Treiman Boulevard in Dade City.

The Florida Highway Patrol reported that a Toyota Tacoma traveling northbound on Treiman Boulevard entered the intersection after the driver failed to notice a red traffic signal. A Chevy Bolt traveling westbound on Cortez Boulevard struck the Toyota’s right rear, triggering a chain reaction. The Toyota then collided with a Ford Ranger, causing it to spin and crash into a concrete barrier.

Responders arrived to find three heavily damaged vehicles and multiple patients. Four people met trauma alert criteria due to the severity of their injuries, and one additional patient was transported to the hospital by ALS ambulance. Air medical support was requested, along with mutual aid from additional fire rescue units.

Westbound lanes of Cortez Boulevard were closed to establish a safe landing zone for medical helicopters while crews worked the scene.

We wish all those injured a speedy recovery.

How Intersection Signal Violations Can Lead to Chain-Reaction Crashes

When a driver enters an intersection against a red light, the risk of a multi-vehicle collision increases significantly. Cross-traffic vehicles may not have enough time to react, leading to high-impact side collisions that can involve multiple lanes or directions of travel.

These types of crashes can escalate quickly, especially on busy highways where vehicles are traveling at higher speeds. Secondary impacts, such as spins or collisions with fixed objects, can worsen injuries. Traffic safety experts emphasize obeying signal lights, reducing distractions, and approaching intersections with caution to help prevent severe chain-reaction crashes.
