Why Turning Movements Often Lead to Intersection Collisions
Crashes frequently occur when vehicles make turning movements at intersections or along busy city streets. Drivers turning left or right must judge the speed and distance of oncoming traffic, which can sometimes lead to miscalculations.
Smaller vehicles such as mopeds and motorcycles may be harder to see than larger cars or trucks. Their narrow profile can make them less visible to drivers who are focused on surrounding traffic or pedestrians.
Traffic flow, vehicle speed, and road design can also affect how safely drivers complete turns. When multiple directions of traffic meet at the same location, even a brief delay in reaction time can lead to a collision.
