New Madrid, MO (January 18, 2026) – A collision between a passenger van and a commercial vehicle on Saturday morning resulted in injuries to a young mother and two toddlers at the intersection of MO-80 in Matthews, prompting immediate medical attention and vehicle removal.
The crash occurred at approximately 7:47 a.m. when a southbound 2018 Volvo, driven by a 60-year-old man from Wynne, AR, entered the path of an eastbound 2019 Dodge Grand Caravan. The impact left the van with extensive damage, requiring removal by D&K Towing. The Volvo sustained moderate damage but was able to be driven from the scene.
The 24-year-old female driver of the Dodge, a resident of Sikeston, and her two young passengers, a 1-year-old and a 2-year-old male, each sustained injuries in the crash. All three were transported via private conveyance to Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston for treatment. Authorities confirmed that seatbelts and child restraints were in use at the time, which likely helped prevent more serious injuries.
Troop E of the Missouri State Highway Patrol is leading the investigation. Preliminary information suggests that the Volvo’s movement into the path of the Dodge may have caused the collision, though official findings are still pending.
Our thoughts are with the injured mother and her children, and we wish them a full and swift recovery.
