Norfolk, VA (January 15, 2026) – A two-car collision on the westbound side of the Berkeley Bridge Wednesday afternoon left at least one person injured and caused temporary traffic delays in the area.
Crews from Ladder 1, Engine 6, and Medic 6 were dispatched to the bridge shortly before 2 p.m. after reports came in of a motor vehicle accident involving two sedans. One individual at the scene was treated for back pain, and emergency medical personnel conducted further evaluations to determine the extent of the injuries.
The crash affected the first and second lanes of the bridge, prompting authorities to redirect traffic while responders assessed the scene. The vehicles were later relocated to a nearby exit to clear the roadway and allow traffic to resume normal flow.
Although the disruption was brief, the incident brought afternoon traffic to a slow crawl as commuters navigated around emergency activity. The names of those involved have not been released, and no major structural damage to the bridge was reported.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the cause of the crash, including driver behavior and road conditions at the time of impact. Further details may be made available as the investigation develops.
We extend our sincere wishes for a swift recovery to the individual injured in this incident.
