Why School Bus Boarding Areas Need Extra Care
School bus stops can be high-risk areas because kids may move quickly toward or away from the bus. Drivers must watch for stopped buses, flashing lights, and children near the roadway. A child might be hard to see, especially near the front or side of a bus.
Morning school traffic can also create distractions. Parents, buses, and other vehicles may all be moving through the same area. Drivers need enough space and time to stop when children are present.
After a child is hit by a car, medical checks help confirm the extent of any injuries. Even when injuries are not life-threatening, soreness, bruising, or other symptoms might need follow-up care. School staff may also provide support for students who witnessed the crash.
