Pedestrian Safety on Neighborhood Roadways

Neighborhood streets like Garfield Street often carry local traffic moving between homes, nearby businesses, and connecting roads. Pedestrians may walk along these streets for daily activities such as errands, visiting neighbors, or traveling between nearby areas.

Pedestrian crashes can occur when drivers and pedestrians share limited roadway space. In residential areas, parked cars, intersections, and driveways can reduce visibility and make it harder for drivers to notice pedestrians nearby.

Collisions between vehicles and pedestrians frequently lead to serious injuries because the person on foot has little protection. Traffic speed, lighting conditions, and driver attention can all influence how these incidents occur on neighborhood streets.
