North Windham, CT (January 31, 2026) – A severe head-on collision on January 30 led to serious injuries and an extensive emergency response on Rte 66 at the intersection with Airport Rd in North Windham. The crash occurred around 3:00 p.m. and involved heavy entrapment, requiring extrication by emergency personnel.
Life Star 2 was dispatched following a modified scene request to Windham Airport and assisted in transporting one patient suffering from traumatic injuries to Hartford Hospital. Ground EMS transported the flight crew from the aircraft to the crash site and then accompanied the patient back to the helicopter for airlift.
Due to the severity of the incident, an accident reconstruction team was called in, and Route 66 remained closed for an extended period. Motorists were advised to avoid the area, with significant backups stretching from Rte 6 to Rte 66.
