What Risks Are Involved When Passing on Rural Highways?
Passing on two-lane highways like M-86 can be dangerous, especially when large trucks are involved. Drivers must judge distance, speed, and oncoming traffic in a short window of time. Miscalculations can quickly lead to head-on crashes, which are often severe due to the combined force of both vehicles.
Rural roads may also have limited visibility because of curves, hills, or changing light conditions. Evening hours can make it harder to spot approaching vehicles in time to avoid a collision.
Head-on crashes frequently result in serious or fatal injuries. Safe passing requires clear sight lines, enough distance, and patience to wait for a safe opportunity.
