Crews worked for several hours to clear the roadway. By about 6:30 a.m., the two cars had been removed and the truck was uprighted and moved from the scene.
Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash.
We extend our thoughts to those injured and wish them a full recovery.
Common Cases at Busy Freeway Interchanges Like I-880 and 23rd Avenue
Busy approaches near Interstate 880 and 23rd Avenue can slow rapidly following crashes. Crews in Oakland may redirect traffic as needed while managing incidents along the corridor.
Freeways that pass through urban areas often carry heavy commuter and commercial traffic. Large trucks, passenger vehicles, and merging traffic may all share the same lanes during peak travel hours.
When a crash blocks part of a freeway, nearby lanes can quickly become congested. Temporary traffic adjustments are often used while crews remove damaged vehicles and restore normal traffic flow.
