The crash remains under investigation.
We extend our deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of the cyclist who lost his life in this tragic accident.
Why Are Bicycle Crashes at Intersections Especially Dangerous?
Collisions involving bicycles frequently occur at intersections where vehicles and cyclists must navigate crossing traffic, turning movements, and traffic signals.
At busy intersections such as 114th Street and West Center Road, cyclists may be especially vulnerable because they have far less protection than drivers in enclosed vehicles.
When a bicycle and a passenger vehicle collide, the cyclist often absorbs the full force of the impact, which can lead to severe or fatal injuries even at moderate speeds.
Crash investigators reviewing bicycle accidents typically analyze traffic signals, right-of-way, vehicle speed, and visibility conditions to determine how the collision occurred.
