According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, a westbound Volkswagen Golf attempted to pass a Ram 1500 pickup truck before striking an eastbound Subaru Outback. The initial impact caused both vehicles to hit the pickup. The Subaru left the roadway and overturned onto its roof.
The Subaru’s driver, 70-year-old Lee D. Meadows of Waynesburg, was pronounced dead. A 39-year-old passenger from Malvern was taken to Aultman Hospital in Canton, where her medical status was not immediately released. The Ram driver, a 34-year-old man from Malvern, received minor injuries. Investigators believe speed may have contributed to the crash, and no charges had been filed as of the initial report.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to the family and loved ones of Lee D. Meadows.
What Factors Are Examined After a Multi-Vehicle Head-On Crash?
A multi-vehicle head-on crash usually requires investigators to carefully review how each vehicle moved before the initial collision. Early findings focus on lane positions, passing maneuvers, and the sequence of impacts involving every vehicle. Additional information may become available after evidence has been fully analyzed.
Physical evidence, such as tire marks, debris, vehicle damage, and final resting positions, can help reconstruct how the collision unfolded. Investigators may also review seatbelt use, roadway conditions, vehicle data, and witness statements to develop a complete timeline. These findings help explain the circumstances leading up to the crash and provide a clearer understanding of the events.
