What Information Is Often Gathered After a Fatal Roadway Collision?
After a deadly roadway collision, several types of information are commonly reviewed to help piece together what happened. Investigators often examine vehicle positions, roadway markings, debris patterns, and weather conditions from the time of the crash. Traffic flow and lighting can also provide useful details, especially on roads with limited visibility or changing speed zones.
Witness statements may help establish how the vehicles were moving before contact occurred. In some cases, nearby businesses or homes may have security cameras that captured part of the roadway. Vehicle damage is also closely reviewed because it can show where contact happened and how severe the force was. Medical findings and roadway measurements are often added to the overall review as more facts become available in the days following a fatal wreck.
